Blood and beauty

The book-sized magazine Bessatsu Taiyo has an issue on Tsukioka Yoshitoshi. One of the last ukiyo-e practitioners, who was one of the scandal-sheet illustrators. Known for his bloody murder, news and drama imagery, he in fact did everything from beauty to legends. His own story seems as dramatic as his prints. The historical classics make the art history books, but these end-of-era prints should be as well known.
