Tradition and modernity

I'm in the process of photographing various traditional craftsmen and -women in Japan for a book. I'm not going to post the photos as I go along – that will have to wait for publication time, and anyway the process will take a while. But just to show the start, here's an out-take of higo zougan (gold leaf and metal working) artisan Kentaro Inada in Kyushu. While Japanese craft is often shown with a serious image, the process of photographing does not have to be free of fun!
